My son called me upstairs this morning, as he was getting dressed and looking out the window over the field (his bedroom is the one I film the foxes from!) He said there was a woodpecker in the field. I ran upstairs and he was right! Just outside his window on the grass was a green woodpecker foraging. I have heard them around here, but never seen one on the ground. My camera was already on the window sill, ready for the foxes, so I took a couple of pictures, but through the double glazing. I wanted to take a couple before trying to open the window. I was glad I did, because as I opened the window really slowly, it must have caught sight of me and it was off. A beautiful bird though and I was quite pleased with the images, considering they were taken through glass!
