This rather unfortunate mole was brought in by one of my cats today…. not sure how a cat catches a mole, or whether they found it dead. I presume that if they are tunnelling and coming to the surface whilst creating their molehill, that a cat may be able to grab one. It did, however, give me the chance to have a close look and snap a few photos of course (much to the disgust of my son who could not understand why I was so fascinated in a dead mole!)
This creature is so well adapted to its live underground… those front shovel like feet are amazing. There even appears to be a side piece of skin to create the maximum surface area for shovelling. What an amazing coat too… so dense and soft.
