For over 50 years, feeding garden birds has been at the heart of my life. It all began in my childhood garden in SE London, where my bird table and simple feeders sparked a fascination that has only grown stronger with time. Decades of watching, learning, and caring for wild birds have given me the chance to experiment with countless foods and seed blends, trying to attract as many species as I could to my garden. To eliminate wastage, I started creating my own blends.

So when the opportunity arose to collaborate with Eco Bird Food to develop my very own bird food mix, I grabbed it with both hands. Their values aligned perfectly with mine: a family-run UK business committed to sustainability, plastic-free packaging, and high-quality ingredients. It was the ideal partnership for creating something truly special.

But I wanted the development of the WildlifeKate mix  to follow one rule:

Across the summer, I designed a  trial using 10 of Eco Bird Food’s premium ingredients. Using a series of carefully designed feeding stations, camera systems, and hours upon hours of recording, I let the birds themselves reveal their favourites. From finches to tits, robins to nuthatches, their choices became the foundation of the blend.
