Wildlife Inspired Artwork… by my daughter!

Writer's picture: WildlifeKateWildlifeKate

My daughter, Charlotte, started Sheffield Hallam university last September, studying Graphic design. Despite growing up with me as her mother, she has never shown more than a passing  interest in natural history. As with many things, she did not really appreciate how much she liked living in a fairly rural area, until she moved to a tower block in the middle of Sheffield, where the sound of birdsong was replaced with sirens and the view from her window was one of a very urban landscape rather than fields!

Over the last few months, she has found herself doing more and more nature-inspired work and lots of this can be seen on her blog at www.charlottemacrae.weebly.com.   I think that a lot of wildlife interest and knowledge has actually been absorbed by osmosis… more than she realised!

Following my Big Garden Birdwatch photography this weekend, she started playing around with some of the photographs I had taken. I said that I would like to have some of her work on my shop and this inspired her to have a rather creative  weekend!

She has chosen to call her very new business ‘Hickory Design’ and will begin (in between uni assignments!) to create a range of products based on her work. She has designed 6 bird images, based around my photographs and we are now looking into cost of getting these made into postcard sets that can be sold on my shop. I think they are lovely…. but may be I am biased … here they are… I’ll let you decide….
