It's hard to get the kind of footage I want, to showcase Gwyllt Hollow, when I am on my own. I tend to use my phone, but it has its limitations as I either have to hold it myself, or set it up on a tripod.
For a while I have been thinking about getting a drone, but despite trying a few, they were all either too big, too complicated or just too expensive. When a friend showed me their DJI Neo and the simplicity and ease of use, with its built in modes, I was so impressed, I decided to get one.
I found a reconditioned model at a reduced cost and this video is one of the first I have done, using it. It is pretty a basic video to start with and the NEO was set on 'Follow me' mode.
There is a lot of vegetation, low branches and narrow spaces in my quarry, but it coped pretty well. I only crashed it once... when I tried to get it to follow me DOWN the steps and it stooped into a fern! It struggled a bit if I moved too fast up the large steps (hence my rather slower than usual pace!) but I am pleased with this, my first attempt.
Hopefully you will see an improvement as I start to experiment more with this cool piece of kit and I get the the hang of flying it and thinking of ways I can share Gwyllt Hollow, visually, in a way I just couldn't do before. I feel it gives a much better 1st-person view flying it like this and I am hoping to bring lots more exciting content with it over the coming months.
