Inside and Outside the Kestrel Box.. more action today

This morning, I swung my PTZ camera around so it was trained on the outside of  the nest box that the kestrels are interested in. It showed that several jackdaws are also going to be competing for this box! I am considering putting a dedicated camera up outside as, if the kestrels do take up residence, it could give me some excellent footage! It was great to be able to watch them sitting on the outside of the box, looking pretty relaxed!

The male seems to be the main visitor and he is certainly checking out the box thoroughly. Today, he performed the ‘paddling’ that I have observed with my tawnies, when they check out the substrate in the box. This is a very good sign, along with another food pass…. I just hope they can keep the jackdaws in check!
