As part of a project at the school I teach at, children were all encouraged to hand write a letter to someone who inspires them! So many people never hand write letters any more and we wanted our children to experience the joy of receiving a letter through the post… something you could hold, keep and treasure…. not just an email that will be lost forever in hyperspace! The pupils have written superb letters to all sorts of people, but when the Head Teacher told me to accompany her to the classroom to give a letter to a Year 6 pupil, I went along, intrigued….
There was much excitement in the classroom when he was told he had a letter… and the envelope was hand written! Most of our letters back have been typed. He opened the letter…. it was from no other than DAVID ATTENBOROUGH!!!! Yes! This young man had written to Sir David, saying how much he loved, and was inspired by, his programmes.
The letter he received was golden!! I was VERY jealous… what a wonderful, memorable experience for this lad… something we are all about creating at Michael Drayton Junior!! :o)
What a inspriational man Sir David is, to take the time to hand write a letter and to say such a wonderful statement….. something I also deeply believe in; that we are ALL born with an interest in nature. It was a very special moment! :o)
