Butterflies

Writer: WildlifeKateWildlifeKate

The last few days of warm sunshine have meant that the overwintering butterflies have ‘come to life’ . I have seen a brimstone, small tortoishell and peacock in the garden over the last few days. All of these species will spend the winter as adults, emerging when the temperatures rise. One of the other butterflies I usually see quite early in the year is the orange tip, but I think these overwinter as chrysalids.
