Badger Sett Cover-up & Filming

The day had come to finally cover over our badger sett at Yew View as we had a digger and dumper on site. It would have taken far too long to do it by hand! I was also delighted to welcome a film crew from The One Show, who were interested in following the story of this sett and will hopefully run the story on the show if the badgers move in.

They went for some artistic shots of the digger loading up the soil and depositing it in the dumper and then onto the sett…

They even got a great shot, when the dumper dropped the soil onto a GoPro…. we just had to dig to locate it afterwards!

I did a few bits to camera, explaining the project and our hopes over the next few months…

It was a bit scary seeing it all disappearing under the earth and I hoped I had got it all right… or I will be getting the spade out!

Next week, the cameras will go in; one in each sett chamber and one outside to see if we have any ‘lookers’. Those ‘chimneys’ sticking up are where the cameras will be inserted. When I tested the cameras, before the earth covered it over, the image inside the cha,her was like this… just imagine a badger in the middle of that!!

Then it will just be a waiting game, hoping and praying that the badgers like the look of it and move in! There are several fox pairs around too, so maybe one of them will take up residence. We will just have to keep our fingers and toes crossed!
