Gwyllt Hollow - Boot Wrens
When out in my garage port, I saw a load of moss on the floor. Looking up, I could see a wren was trying, unsuccessfully, to build a nest in the armpit of a fleece hanging there. I had an old pair of leaking walking boots and I had put them to one side, with the view to hang them up as nesting spaces. This was the perfect time! I screwed the boot in the same location and, within just a few hours, the male had started bringing moss inside.
The male builds multiple nests and then invites the female in, to inspect and to choose one. Over a series of weeks, the male brought females to view and eventually this little Wren, who I call 'Jenny', chose this lovely nest space. She brought in lots of soft materials to the nest to line it and eventually started laying. I do not know how many eggs are in there, but they started hatching on the 16th May. I am looking forward to watching her raise her young here in my garage port.
NB: Due to the proximity of this camera to my house, the camera will often stream without audio.
