It seems an age ago I was in the stunning Shetland Islands, watching and photographing some of the amazing wildlife there! After a very busy summer, I have finally found the time to sit down and have a look through all the images I took. As my blog posts about my week documented, we all had a wonderful week, full of memorable wildlife encounters!
It is very difficult to choose images that I feel are the ‘best’ to upload … many people just upload their very best images as a showcase, but for me, they have to mean something to me. My images are taken to document my trips and encounters and each photo has a ‘memory bank’ of feelings attached to it… I just wish I could share those attached story memories with you too!
The otter images, for example, take me back to the coastline, the smell of the sea and the excitement of racing along the headland as the otter dived, as we tried to get level with it and up wind, before it resurfaced! The excitement, as I laid on the rocks, heart racing, as this beauty appeared on the rocks opposite crunching on its fish breakfast, unaware of our presence!
The other amazing encounter was with an individual who rested up on some rocks for about ten minutes. These images bring memories flooding back; standing tiptoed next to a stone wall, straining to get my lens over the top to watch this beauty, with my arms shaking with the strain of holding the lens steady without making a noise …
The otters were an obvious highlight, but all the wildlife I photographed will remain in my memory and these photos help to keep those memories fresh. I am not a professional photographer… I photograph purely for my own pleasure and as a way to share my wildlife experiences with others… I hope you enjoy and that they inspire you to visit of the truly wonderful wildlife locations we have in this wonderful country of ours….
