My Great tit chicks hatched on Bank Holiday Monday and it always astounds me how quickly they grow. In a week, they have turned from tiny pink jelly-bean babies into chicks 3 x the size, feathers beginning to pin and eyes beginning to open! The parents have been working hard collecting caterpillar from the emerging fresh foliage on the Oak tree on which the box is mounted. I had counted eight eggs, but on close counts on play-back footage, I have counted nine hungry mouths to feed… so this pair have their work cut out!
I have uploaded some still from each day, as well as some video footage and this can all be seen on the webpage for this nest box. It is only when you see it like this that you can appreciate the daily growth! These chicks seem to have grown from the time I get up in the morning to the time I get in from work…. you can SEE a DAILY difference! Click below to look at the Flickr set I have created for this little family!
Here are a few video clips showing how these chicks have changed over the week. There seems to be an issue with the microphone on this camera so the sound can be a little intermittent…
Keep an eye on this family’s webpage, as the new images and videos will appear on there, as I upload them. I aim to get at least one video clip per day and a selection of stills. I am hoping to have these chicks ringed in the next few days, so I can monitor how many of them stay in and around my patch, which will be really interesting!
