I managed to put my Gardenature ‘odd box’ up today. It is so called because of the rather strange shape it is. The reason is that the camera is angled so that you get a sideways view on the nest, rather than the traditional ‘top’ view. You can also see the entrance hole clearly, which you generally can’t in the normal boxes. I think this is a brilliant deisgn and should give a much better view of the birds, their chicks and the nest. This picture is from the Gardenature website and shows the inside of the box and how the camera angle is achieved.
I mounted the camera in a fir tree and within an hour of putting it up, a great tit popped its head in. It would be great if I could get blue tits in one box and great tits in the other!
