With the excitement of my long tailed tit nest last week, I remembered collecting a load of feathers from my hens last summer when they had a huge moult. The problem was… I couldn’t remember the ‘safe’ place I had put them all! Luckily, whilst having a sort out in my greenhouse today, I rediscovered them safely stored away in a hanging basket liner.
Long tailed tits line their domed nest with feathers and they can use up to 2000… where on earth do they find that many??? Hopefully my little ‘feather whisk’ will give them a helping hand! I used the lid off of a feeder I am not using to offer a little protection against any rain… now I’ll just wait and see if they discover the feather stash and take advantage of it!!
