After driving back home from Devon, one of the first things I did was to have a look at what had been recorded on my cameras. I was not disappointed as the Kestrel Box showed some very exciting footage!
On the evening of the 19th, a stunning male kestrel visited the box and showed lots of very promising signs that he was interested….
… and he returned again earlier today exhibiting very similar behaviour…
The most promising behaviour is the fluttering and feet paddling in the base of the box. Kestrels just make a scrape and do not build a nest as such. He is testing it out for size and suitability! The males look for suitable nesting places and will then bring the female to look. We will have to hope we see the female appear this week..then I will be getting seriously excited!
The kestrels will have to battle against other species viewing as well. The jackdaws are looking pretty interested and have visited a couple of times!
