The blue tit family on my live cameras are doing really well. 8 out of the 9 eggs hatched and they are growing fast, as lots of juicy caterpillars are being brought in by the parents. The box is mounted on an oak tree and, by now, it will be full of moth caterpillars!
I am lifting footage every day from this nest box and hope to create a compilation video at the end of the season, showing how fast these chicks will for over the next 3 week before they will fledge.
I am thrilled with the image in this new set-up, marred only by the lack of audio. The camera has a microphone, but the server system I use for my live streams seems unable to cope with the sound element and, despite much trying, I have been unable to record audio. It is something I am going to have to investigate further, ready for next year.
despite watching this story unfold numerous times, I never lose interest and it is fantastic, this year, to be able to share it on my website live cameras. A big thank you to CJ Wildlife who have supported me in my live cameras this year. It is worth checking into their website to look at their other cameras, mainly in Denmark. They have some cracking nests this year!
You can see all the footage from this box via its own page on my website. Make sure you opt to watch these in HD by clicking on the cog icon!
The chicks hatched on the 17th and 18th May and I captured this moment when the female ate one of the egg shells. This helps provide essential calcium for the adult.
The chicks grow incredibly fast… here they are just 2 days later…
and again another 2 days later….
