‘Beaky’……A poorly robin

Writer's picture: WildlifeKateWildlifeKate

Last week I noticed this robin in the garden… it looked a bit ‘strange’ and on closer examination, seemed to have its beak open all of the time. I have been watching it today and took some shots of it to try to see if I could get a closer look via my photos. It seems to be able to eat and drink and is pretty perky. It came quite close to me and is bright-eyed and alert.

Its beak and tongue seem to be set rigid and there seems to be no movement in the tongue. Its left leg is a bit twisted as well, but it was chasing off other males by the patio feeders.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? What could be wrong with ‘Beaky’????
