I am obsessed with bird feeders! I have lots and lots of bird feeders and I always love it when something a bit different comes out. CJ Wildlife asked if I would like to try out a few of the latest additions to their bird feeder range and, of course, the garden birds and I were happy to help out!
These feeders are a trendy rather attractive twist on some that I have used before to feed the jars of peanut butter. They are called ‘Evie’ and, available in a range of different colours, I requested the green themed ones. They are attractively packaged and are well made and look great!

Made of a tough plastic, they feel pretty substantial and the velcro strap that comes with them, makes it easy to attach them to a thin tree, a drain pipe or similar. I wanted to mount all of mine together, So I found an old broom handle I had in the garage and I screwed them onto it. I then mounted the broom handle on a fence post.
Next to them, I also mounted another feeder, ‘Sam’ , for footballs. I filled one of the Evie feeders with suet pellets, one with sunflower seeds and put a peanut butter jar in the third. Mounting a camera next to them meant I could monitor the visitors via the computer in my office.
It was not very long before the tits discovered it! The blue tits were first in, followed rapidly by the great tits and then the robin. It was not long before the birds were using this trio of feeders regularly. I was not sure if they would just perch on the outside, or whether they would feel confident enough to go right in. By the end of the first day, the birds were happy to pop inside, grab and go!
I was a little concerned about the squirrels in my garden. Anything made of plastic can be subject to their sharp teeth. I felt that the hole in these feeders was big enough for them to take food if they wanted and that they shouldn’t need to nibble them. I didn’t quite anticipate what would happen next though! I looked out to see just a squirrel tail sticking out of the feeder. There are a couple of young squirrels around and this one had gone right inside. I crept outside with my iPhone and videoed my approach!
These young squirrels come every day… it won’t be long before he is too big to fit inside. In the meantime, he does look pretty cute!
The birds are also loving these feeders and I have had lots of different visitors….
The success of these feeders means that I might consider putting these on my live cameras for a while.
