#30DaysWild – Day 26 Ultimate Shetland: Hillswick Hair-Straightening Fund Raiser!

Whilst on my tour with Hugh Harrop and Shetland Wildlife, I was lucky enough to meet one of Hugh’s other guides, Tim Stenton. Tim leads many tours with Shetland Wildlife.

Tim hails from Derbyshire and his successful business career has taken him all over the world. As a biologist, author and photographer, he is never happier when on or near the sea (so he is pretty happy  in Shetland!) Tim’s love of Shetland, his friendly manner, vast knowledge and infectious enthusiasm is apparent. Tim has spent most of the last few years based in Scotland writing and photographing for his first book ‘Moray Firth Dolphins’ which documents the lives of these enigmatic animals. He is also a major contributing photographer to ‘Britain’s Sea Mammals’ authored by fellow Shetland Wildlife guides Hugh, Rob and Jon.

We got chatting and commenting on his rather luscious curly locks! He was commenting on the fact that he needed a visit to the barber and I jokingly said that, if he straightened his hair, it would probably reach his shoulders! Hugh said to the group that if I straightened his hair, he would donate money to Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary! Others in our group thought it would be brill and also offered money for this to happen! Being a good sport, Tim agreed and we met that night in the dining room!

Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary cares for injured and abandoned wildlife in Shetland and you can find out more about their work on their Facebook Page.

Hugh has been raising money for them and is very close  to reaching his target of £2500!

We all had a great laugh, I I tackled Tim’s curly hair and managed to straighten his hair…. he ended up looking rather like Boris Johnson! A great way to end outré tour with lots of laughs and even better, we raised £80 for Hillswick!

Thank you to Tim for being such a good sport and to Hugh for his continued work in helping this great charity. If you think you could spare a small amount to help them, then please follow the link to Hugh’s Just Giving Page above, where you can donate. They are currently caring for a young otter cub and seal pups that have recently been rescued, as well as other animals, all in need of care and attention.
