I start a new teaching job at Michael Drayton Junior School. I will be developing a very exciting 'WildLearning' Space and I'll be working on helping the school maximise opportunities for using their outdoor spaces for learning. We have already started working on the space! I will be teaching here 2 days a week and building a website to document the WildLearning Space journey.

This year I will working with Bushnell Outdoor Optics to explore the potential of a range of Bushnell products in a wildlife capacity; from binoculars to trailcams to nightvision, I will be sharing my experiences with these products both in my patch and further afield. I will be building a new wesbite to share this with my followers.

I have set up a 'WildlifeKate Wild Garden WIldlife 365' Flickr set on my account with the plan that I try to record 365 creatures in my patch this year... This will not be a daily thing, but with images captured from trailcams, my wired cameras, phone, my little Panasonic and my DSLR I will see if I can reach the 365.... easy to start, but more of a challenge as the year progresses!

I will be joining John Little and Dusty Gedge at the EcoBuild Show at Excel and doing a couple of talks at their stand about attracting and filming wildlife in your garden!

I have been asked to open the 'Big Green Fair' Event in Lichfield this year, organised by LoCarbon Lichfield. I will also be running some workshops and doing some talks. I will be raising money for West Midlands Hedgehog Rescue at this event.

After a very successful Gardeners' World Live 2012, I plan on exhibiting again this year, with an even bigger and better stand!

I take the dream holiday of a lifetime to the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, after winning a competition! This really is a dream come true and you will be hearing lots about the preparations, build up, as well as my trip to this wonderful part of the world!

I will be exhibiting again at BirdFair, Rutland, joining the Bushnell team on their stand in the Optics Marquee. We had a great few days last year and hope we can go 'bigger & better' for 2013!

In my 'Patch'

I have lots of things planned in 'My Patch' for the coming year, but here are a few that are on the list!!

  • Set up new cameras to provide excellent viewing all year round
  • New cameras in a range of nest boxes, hoping to attract new species for live cams
  • More 'KreATivE' projects
  • Nectar rich planting to contimue to increase insect population
  • Green roof seeded with nectar rich plants for roof insect meadow!
  • New Hedgehog feeding stations, with illumination for colour night-time images!
  • Working with i-catcher to upgrade all my camera and monitoring systems to improve the way I can watch and record what goes on

Photography Challenges

I want to try to find time for my wildlife photography too.... here are a few pictures I would really like to get under my belt in 2013...

  • Pictures of 365 creatures in my patch for my 365 challenge on Flickr
  • A decent Barn owl shot!
  • Fox family shots of my visiting foxes
  • Big cats... especially leopard (when I go on safari in July!)
  • See and photograph crested tits and red squirrels (will need a visit to Scotland I think!)
