Fern has a new mate this year and she has continued to visit with cubs from previous litters... sometimes up to 6 at my feeding station. By April this year, it was obvious that Fern was lactating and also another vixen, sho I think is Tess, from 2010 litter, so I have been waiting... and hoping... that I would see some new cubs in the field once again. On14th May, I got my first glimpse of one cub on the trail cam... and then nothing until 2nd June.
This page aims to document the story as it unfolds this year......
I set the Bushnell up close to where I thought the foxes were coming in. I was delighted to capture my first glimpse of a 2012 cub... just the one with Tess I think.
I spotted some movement over the far side of the field opposite my office. Grabbing the binoculars, I could see two cubs. I managed to film, hand-held , out of an upstairs window. They look very healthy and happy!
Working at my desk, I cuaght a glimpse of movement in my hedgehog box and was absolutely amazied to see a fox cub actually INSIDE the box! It is pretty small and the entrance hole was made smaller to stop my cats getting in. Switching cameras, there was another cub feeding from prickly diner too!
I managed to capture some clips when I noticed a third cub at the fox feeding station as well. Seeing all three at the same time confimred we have at least three cubs this year. I am not sure if they are all from the same litte, or two litters.
There is one much smaller one. She came into the hedgehog box at one point and, knowing the size of the feeding bowl, she would have nly been the size of a small cat!
