Hub Nest Box Cam

More about this box.........

This nest box is my almost guaranteed nest box! For the last six years, blue tits have raised their family here. It looks promising for 2020 too!

This nest box has been adapted from having an analogue camera inside it, to now having a Hikvision minidome HD IP camera.  The box was originally made by Wildlife Windows and has a small lighting unit inside, which is operated via a light sensor on the outside of the box. The lights come on during the day and go off at night. I have lights in all of my nest boxes and all of them are occupied, which confirms my belief that a certain level of lighting does not affect the birds in any way.

I have adapted this box to house the Hikvision mini-dome IP camera. It is just small enough to get it inside and it gives excellent fooage.

The box is mounted on an Oak tree half way up my garden. This situation has had a box for the last 6 years and I have had blue tits nest in it every year. The box often changes, but I always put it back in this favourite position. Oak trees are an incredible micro--habitat for many invertebrates and vertebrates. Usually, the hatch of the eggs corresponds with the oak coming into leaf. This is when the leaves are covered in newly hatch moth caterpillars.... perfect food for hungry blue tit chicks!
